CMAS Championships 2020-2023

The 2020 season was a black year for Finswimming. The Master's World Championships scheduled for June, the European Junior and World Senior Championships, planned for July were first postponed to October (with World Championships becoming European). And then the Junior and Senior competitions were cancelled on a short notice. The Open Water World's, scheduled for September,  were also cancelled.

The only competition that survived were the European Master's Championships. They were held in Lignano in early October just barely saving the competition yearbook from presenting a white page.

European Championships Masters 2020

The situation did improve in 2021 and the competitions were held as planned. The World Open Water championships were finally held in Santa Marta instead of San Andrés under the new formula with competitions for senior, junior and masters.

The swimming pool masters championships were again European instead of World's, due to travel restrictions and were held again in Lignano.

World Championships 2021

In the results that were distributed to the participating teams and well as in those published on the CMAS website there was one ommission, that of the final (rapid) heats of the 400 m IM both for women and men. The results linked above are complete, thanks to the help of the Sports Committee director M. Gaunard.

In 2022 the situation went back to normal and, along with the World Games, we had swimming-pool European Championships for junior and World Championships for senior and masters. 

The Open Water Championships were organised according to the new formula with events for junior, senior and masters. In order to promote the Open Water competitions those were again World Championships, a formula that carried over also to 2023.

Similarly, the masters' championships were World ones, held in the same venue, Cairo, as the junior championships.

The first African Championships were also held in 2023, both in swimming pool and open water.
